Retro Modern Illustrator: Shag

I am pretty sure you have all seen this first illustrator: Shag. Josh Agle took the last two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last name and created the handle 'Shag' which is perfect for the retro pop surrealist look of his art.

Shag is known for his witty depictions of beatnik babes and tiki icons in colors usually saved for candy stores. He credits Jim Flora and Ward Kimball as his greatest influences which can be seen in the 50's era illustration genre of his art work.

Each composition seem to be a snapshot into a world where everything seems normal until you look closer and realize that something isn't quite right.

For more information on Shag, check out this video:

which has an interesting interview with the man himself or visit his website with images from each of his recent shows- which is where all the illustrations used in this blogpost come from.
