Modern Etiquette

via here

I was reading this article this morning and it got me thinking about manners in our everyday life, especially regarding the cell phone.

Have you ever had a really rude cell phone talker experience? I can't think of one I have had! I live in LA, the bastion of cell phones (I have owned a cell phone since 1998!) so maybe we are 'ahead' in cell phone etiquette.

Or maybe I don't get out that much.

Whatever the case, I have never been next to someone talking loudly on a cell phone at a restaurant, in line at the grocery store, or during a movie. At least not that I can recall!

(Though a few years ago some teens lit up a blunt in a movie. I thought that was rude. And illegal. They didn't even offer to share!)

So I was surprised when reading the aforementioned article that there was still so many breaches of cell phone manners.

Am I just oblivious to the lack of manners around me? Do any of you have a good cell phone breach of etiquette story? If so, please share in the comments.

As an aside, I have another question for you:

When I travel, I often bring a portable DVD player. I like the larger screen and the ability to buy DVDs, as opposed to downloading it on my iPhone. I have been known to watch the DVD player in restaurants, WITH HEADPHONES, and my sister thinks it is really rude. I think it is just fine. I always ask for a table out of the way so the screen doesn't bother anyone, and I don't watch anything too graphic or sexual.

(Though one time I was watching OZ on an airplane and it suddenly got REALLY GRAPHIC! I quickly shut the screen so nobody would see. Talk about embarrassing!)

So tell me, is watching a DVD player in a restaurant (by yourself) rude? If so, I will stop immediately. If not, I will be sure to gloat about it to my sister, which will really make my day. But no pressure.
