Inspiration

I want to introduce you to two of my favorite books on style and glamour. The first is .The Power of Style and the second is Eccentric Glamour

I got The Power of Style by Annette Tapert and Diana Edkins many years ago as a gift. It really opened my eyes up to many incredible women including Chanel and Jackie O, as well as some lesser known ladies such as Rita Lydig and Babe Paley. It was this book that set me on my vintage adventure and is a book I often look at before I go to bed because I find reading about amazing socialites to be very relaxing. Sometime, as I close my eyes for the night, I imagine I am Diana Vreeland taking phone meetings in my bathroom or the Duchess of Windsor married to a defunct King.

The second book is written by Simon Doonan, a fantastic writer and husband of one of my favorite designers, Jonathan Adler. Simon is famous for his irreverent window dressings at Barneys New York. He believes, as I do, that it is much more fun to be an eccentric, glamorous person then a boring one. His book is a 'how to' on creating a personal style and he intersperses chapters with interviews with modern glamorous eccentrics such as Dita Von Teese and Tilda Swinton. In the introduction Simon says, "Why the hell wouldn't you want to be one of the fabulous people, the life enhancers, the people who look interesting and smell luscious and who dare to be gorgeously more fascinating than their neighbors?" Why indeed.
