This is a mixed media 'painting' where the artist made a collage out of old magazines and newspapers, and then somehow superimposes a graphic of a vintage face on the entire canvas. You have to see it to believe it.
I came across artist Michelle Caplan a few weeks ago at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair. She had her work displayed in one of the art booths and I literally stopped in my tracks when I saw her art. They were stunning!
I inquired with her friend who was running the booth about the art work, and as we were talking she said, 'and Michelle also does commissions'. Well, I about died. I mean how amazing would it be to get an old photograph of my mom or grandmother and have Michelle make a personal piece of art that is just spectacular?
Michelle also has an Etsy site where you can purchase already designed pictures. Her prices range from $25 to $1000 depending on size. I don't know how much her commissions are, but I bet they are pretty reasonable for a one of a kind art piece.
And don't forget dear ol' dad or grandpa! I know the men in my family are impossible to shop for, so this would be an amazing gift they will cherish.
