Spotlight On: Enid Collins

When I was putting together my 'colors' last week I noticed one style of handbag that kept catching my eye. I decided to do a little research and that purse was made by Enid Collins who owned Collins of Texas- a handbag company from 1959-1970. I am sure all you vintage lovers will instantly recognize these bejeweled creations and most of you are probably well versed in the history and lore of the designer. But if, like me, you are new to this vintage thing, or you are interested in learning more about Enid Collins, please check out this post or this post on this amazing artist.

What I like about the bag is they look like something I could get new on Etsy today- sort of like the grandmother of the crafting craze. I also appreciate how they almost border on tacky. I say a little kitsch is necessary for glamour.

Here are some Enid Collins or Enid inspired handbags that I have my eye on:

Pink Train

Sea Garden

Angel Handbag (This would be cool for the holidays)

There are many more Enid Collins bags to be had, but these were my favorites. The great thing about these bags is the range in prices. If you are only shopping for bags you love, not necessarily something you want to collect, then a purse with one or two small rhinestones missing will not decrease the delight to you, but it WILL decrease the value, which equals BARGAIN! I suggest bidding on EBay- it looks like there are a lot of adorable bags that only have one or two small flaws that could go for as low as $20!
