These next styles are based on Rachel's hair in The Notebook. I did them really quickly, so they are not perfect, but I think you can get the gist of what I was trying to accomplish. Plus, you can see that even with a short amount of time, they don't look too bad.
For the first look I often start with a full set or quick set of hair (quick set will be featured tomorrow). Once the curls are brushed I then take half of one side of hair and pin it up. To create a little bump in the front, I push the hair towards my forehead and then pin it into place. Then I do the same on the other side. Then I spray. This creates what I call the 'half up/half down'. It is much easier then the victory rolls, which I have never been able to achieve. I often pin a flower behind my left ear, which makes for a lovely do.

Here is the finished product:

Based on this hair I have three variations. The first is the pig tails. I start the same as above, but then I split the hair down the middle and set them in pig tails just under my ears. I love this look and think it looks cute with a more casual dress or skirt.

Another way to go is to braid the hair instead of setting it in pigtails as seen here:

And last, if you want to wear a hat with your faux 40's do, then pin the braids to your head. I twist mine together to try and hide the ends and the elastic, which wasn't the most successful on this try, but I was running out of time! As you can see, even if it isn't perfect, it still looks sort of like a retro hairstyle.

I know these aren't perfect period reproductions, and I am not even sure if that hat is from the 40s, but I think they all look cute and they are just so easy I had to share.
