3 Great Natural Tinted Moisturisers Reviewed

Why You Need Tinted Moisturiser In Your Make Up Bag
Tinted moisturisers do not have the heaviness or cake-iness of some foundations and they don’t require a make up brush like mineral powder foundations do. Perfect for girls on the go that want a healthy, light and natural look but also want just enough coverage for those little imperfections. Our pick of tinted moisturisers contain only the best organic and natural ingredients too but for your own peace of mind you can also check the full ingredient lists included below.

SukiColor Tinted Active Moisturiser

12 Natural Beauty Tips for Summer

Peppermint Tea Toner

Next time you're brewing a cup of peppermint tea, be sure to make a little extra because you can use it as an ultra cooling spray and toner. Once the tea has cooled, pour it into a spray / spritz bottle, refrigerate and then spritz when and as you need throughout your day. The perfect way to stay refreshed during summer!

Organic Peppermint tea bags available from Clipper Teas or try loose leaf Organic Peppermint Tea from £4.75 - Steenbergs Organic

Treat the Tresses

Overexposure to the sun can leave your hair dry and brittle, so summer is definitely the time to treat the tresses with moisturising oils and hair masks. Try massaging a small amount of either coconut oil or jojoba oil into the scalp and hair and leave for 30 minutes or so before you shampoo out.

For another fuss free way to feed your hair, try mashing one banana with two tablespoons of olive oil and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing out. Or try the Coconut Cream Rinse described by Barbara Close in The Spa Deck. You will need coconut milk, honey and a fresh vanilla bean (fresh grated coconut meat is also recommended but there's no way I'll get that together).

No Sweaty Bettys

Many aluminium eschewing girls get slightly nervous during the summer months, worrying that their natural deodorant won't carry them through a hot summer's day sufficiently. I have found the best natural deodorant to be Weleda's Citrus Deodorant which is the perfect aroma for summer and also doubles as a lovely body spray (I even read Kate Hudson used Weleda's rose spray deodorant as a hair spray but I haven't tried doing this yet). If you want to go a step further towards natural beauty, you could try using bicarbonate of soda or lemon slices (apparently some Mediterranean women do this). I have tried both and found the bicarb soda to be particularly effective.

Grapefruit Body Spray

I noticed the other day that Origins do a Grapefruit body mist that sounded quite sublime for this time of year, but I wonder if an organic and pure version of this exists? Perhaps a spritz bottle, distilled water and some organic grapefruit essential oil could achieve similar results? I haven't tried it yet but I imagine a spritz of grapefruit mist now and then throughout a hot and humid day, would be quite blissful! Grapefruit Essential Oil available at Akamuti for £2.50.

Summer Make Up
A girl's beauty kit needs to be reviewed during summer to accommodate the sheen, shine and grime that comes from the summer weather. Firstly, switch heavy foundations for tinted moisturisers. There are some incredible natural tinted moisturisers available (3 Great Natural Tinted Moisturisers Reviewed) but if you don't want to spend money on those, why not try 'diluting' your foundation by mixing it with a moisturiser you are already using. This is an easy and cost effective way to recreate the same light but effective coverage a tinted moisturiser provides. Suki Tinted Active Moisturiser available at Your Natural Beauty Store for £24.99

Switch powdered blushes for cream based ones. Suki Color Pure Cream Stain is a fantastic little pot to carry with you as it adds a soft and flattering dab of colour to the cheeks and lips. Available at Your Natural Beauty Store for £21.49

Tan with Tea

Apparently you can tan your skin with tea. You can use black tea and either wring the tea bag out before swiping over the body (as recommended by Daily Candy) or pour black tea into a spritz bottle for a truly natural spray tan. I also read in Healthy and Organic Living magazine that taking a rooibos tea bath is another way to tan the skin and get a healthy glow. Organic Rooibos Tea, from Clipper Teas or Steenbergs Organic, from £2.65

Foot Soak

Green girls may not have an organic or natural nail salon in their city and therefore cannot enjoy the luxury of getting an organic pedicure. You can try and replicate the experience at home though by using a small tub and filling it with water, essential oils like peppermint, salt to detoxify and even some chopped cucumbers and orange and lemon slices! Play a little Colbie Caillat and let the stresses of the day evaporate away. To finish off the natural home pedicure experience, exfoliate the feet with an olive oil and salt scrub and then apply a moisturiser such as shea butter or coconut oil.

Get Your Bali On

For girls who have spent the day in the sun or just desire a Balinese twinged treat for dry skin, try Badger Balm's Bali Balm. It contains cocoa and shea butters, jojoba and olive oils with essential oils of ylang ylang, lime, lavender and sweet orange. Available at
Badger Balm for $10 or So Organic for £4.39

Buff that Bod

Shorter skirts, shorts, dresses and sleeveless tops require a lot more skin to be revealed during summer, so it's a good idea to exfoliate your body to keep your skin looking its best. To save money on expensive body exfoliants and scrubs, try making your own concoctions at home. Here a few ideas:
  • ground rice and coconut milk
  • brown sugar and sweet almond oil
  • salt, olive oil and your favourite organic essential oil

Citrus Body Oil
Try making your own lush body oil at home with a base of either sweet almond, jojoba or sesame oil and then add your favourite summer soaked essential oils such as lemon, lime, mandarin, neroli, orange or bergamot. If you can't vacation in beautiful Mediterranean locations such as Sicily and Capri, at least you can capture the scent of a sizzling island.

Sweet Feet

Your feet need extra care during summer. They've spent winter and spring hidden away in thick socks and boots and then all of a sudden they are thrust into the world and poked into skimpy, intricate, strappy sandals! No wonder they rebel and give you blisters and iffy looking heels. Try to lather the feet with nourishing moisturisers such as shea butter or coconut oil each night and you should have pretty tootsies in no time!

Beach Babe Hair
If you want beach tussled waves that usually come courtesy of daily swims in the ocean and good genetics, you could try John Masters Organics Sea Mist Salt Spray with Lavender. It contains only three ingredients: water, sea salt and organic lavender oil. I'm going to try and make a version of this at home and hope my hair looks Copacabana ready. Speaking of Brazil, I read a hair tip from Brazilian supermodel, Gisele Bunchen that needs to be shared. She recommended flipping your hair over your head and then gently holding the ends of the hair and shaking it from side to side before flipping the hair back. It sounds too simple to be true, but I've tried it and amazingly it does give your hair a more full, tousled and beach wavey look!
Try it and see what you think.

An Ideal Earth Friendly Day (and way of life hopefully)

Wake up
Reluctantly get out of bed which is covered in organic and fair trade cotton sheets, blankets and pillows and also has an organic mattress.
Mattress - Abaca
Linen - Liv

Brush teeth
Use a natural toothpaste free from SLSs, fluoride and parabens. Brush teeth with Preserve Toothbrush which is made from recycled plastic and yogurt cups and remember to turn off water in between brushing. Do not use mouth wash but use clove oil rinse or warm water, honey and cinnamon mix for fresh breath and healthy gums.
Green People Toothpaste
Weleda Toothpaste
Preserve Toothbrush

Morning Shower
Use products with ingredients that are safe for me and waterways. I ditched the plastic packaging of a shower gel and opted for a bar of sweet smelling soap which is SLS free and contains no palm oil or at least uses sustainable palm oil. I use razors with handles made from recycled plastic and yogurt cups to avoid tossing disposable razors into landfills.

After my shower, I dry off with some lovely white fluffy organic towels and then moisturise with fair trade / organic coconut oil (the scent transports me to Tahiti). Before getting dressed I try and choose between Weleda's Citrus Deodorant or just plain baking soda for an aluminium / propylene glycol free deodorant option. Both work very well but decide to go for baking soda as a deodorant and Weleda for a summery perfume / body spray.

Soaps - Dr Bronner and Raw Gaia
Razors - Preserve Double Razors
Towels - Liv
Coconut Oil - Akamuti
Deodorant - Weleda

Organic skincare
Cleanse and moisturise with natural and organic products to protect my skin and the planet (toxic and synthetic ingredients can be absorbed into the skin and can also have detrimental effects on the environment such as polluting the waterways). Also scan beauty labels for sustainable ingredients and query palm oil now after reading article describing how the high demand for this ingredient is rapidly contributing to the deforestation of the rain forests in countries such as Indonesia.

Cleanser - Pai
Moisturisers - Read my reviews on Raw Gaia, Suki and Weleda
Eye Cream - Dr Alkaitis

Organic makeup
I just counted the number of make up products I use each day and realised the total was 8! At least they are all organic and natural though and I know that whatever my skin is absorbing and my lips are ingesting (from lipsticks and glosses), the ingredients do not contain harmful toxins and synthetic ickiness.

Organic and natural tinted moisturisers - Suki
Natural concealer - Lavera
Natural mascara - Lavera
Natural eyeliner - Borlind
Natural lipgloss - Lavera
Preservative and talc free blush - Suki Color Pure Cream Stain
Vegan lipstick - Perfect Organics
Natural lipgloss - All The Better to Kiss You With

Hair products
Turn to Green People and Aubrey Organics for high hair and high hopes today and also forgo the hair dryer! Thankfully there are some amazing natural and organic hair products available today that will leave your locks and the earth healthy, luscious and bountiful!
Shampoos & Conditioners - Green People and Aubrey Organics
Styling Products - Intelligent Nutrients, John Masters Organics and Aubrey Organics

Get dressed
Put together an outfit derived from organic, fair trade, vintage and re-tailored pieces. Organic Frank & Faith jumper (Annabelle style pictured above), organic Del Forte denim jeans (made in LA), Enamore organic underwear (made in the UK), Charmone vegan heels (sweatshop free from Spain). Accessories include vintage scarf, English Retreads bag (vegan, made in Colorado from recycled tires) and fair trade and recycled jewellery from Made and Kirsten Muenster.

Breakfast
Use Brita filter water to fill jug (with only the amount of water I need) and make organic and fair trade tea. Breakfast of homemade granola and homemade almond milk (organic oats, almonds and dried fruit bought in bulk to reduce packaging and own milk is made to reduce use of milk cartons which can sometimes be hard to recycle).

Pack own lunch / water bottle
This saves money and also ensures I get a healthy organic meal (salad, sandwich or soba noodles) without excess plastic packaging. A reusable glass water bottle also reduces plastic waste and reduces the risk of contamination that may come from aluminium water bottles.

Unplug electrical devices around home before leaving house to ensure no unnecessary energy is being used.

Pack a few reusable shopping bags into my vegan work bag in case some unforeseen shopping spree occurs during the day!

Empty recycling into recycling bins on the way to work

Take public transport or carpool to work to reduce carbon footprint

Read a library book, Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring' on the way to work for some environmental inspiration. Briefly consider purchasing an e-book reader in-between reading. Downloading books directly to electronic devices such as a Kindle or iLiad saves cutting down trees but where are they manufactured and what are they made of? Here is my first ethical dilemma for the day!

At work
Quickly check the fair trade coffee, tea and sugar supplies at work when I go to make a cup of tea (with my own coffee cup).

Email office manager to say how happy I am that he listened and acted upon my 20 polite but passionate emails about eradicating plastic cups, installing recycling bins, refilling ink cartridges, using natural and toxin-free hand soap and cleaning products, using recycled stationery and printing only when necessary on double sided paper and for making sure everyone turns off and unplugs their computer at the end of each day. Just about to send this email when said manager approaches my desk. Decide to thank him in person and perhaps discuss my ideas of banishing air conditioning and heating in the office / or implementing a green dress code for all employees once a month, but he quickly turns the other way when he spots me. It's like he is avoiding me or something. Can't think why?

Exercise
After work I avoid the gym (yeah!) due to the energy needed to power electrical gym equipment such as running and elliptical machines. Decide to get some fresh air and run outside (okay walk) and consider looking for a good yoga class nearby.

Dinner
Enjoy a dinner of organic / seasonal / vegan ratatouille and couscous with organic wine (for friends) so the planet is not being sprayed with pesticides and I am not eating them. Urge carnivorous friends to consider adopting a 'meat free Monday ritual' since they won't go completely vegetarian. It was difficult but the ratatouille and vegan raw food desserts from Raw Fairies finally convinced them.
Raw Fairies recipes

Wash dishes
Wash dishes in sink using Michael's natural luffa (lasts up to 3 months) and my own dish washing liquid as I don't trust what is in the so called natural ones. My personally branded, 'Miss T's Clean it and Green it' liquid is a mixture of water, baking soda, vinegar, lemon essential oil, salt and Dr Bronner's castille soap. It won't be hitting supermarket shelves just yet because while it does clean dishes easily and leaves them sparkly, there is a slight glitch, in that the grease seems to rise to the top of the water and makes the sink a bit of a hassle to clean afterwards.
Michael's Original Luffa

Laundry
Wash clothes using soap nuts and my favourite essential oil of lemon. Place washing on rack to air dry naturally and to save energy needed to run a dryer (okay, so I don't have a dryer).
Soapods

Time online
Pay bills online to cut back on paper mail and play a little background music from some green musicians (Jack Johnson, Radiohead and KT Tunstall). I then decide to get my ethical fashion fix by perusing the online green glam magazine, Coco Eco. No paper used and just eco friendly eye candy to absorb!

Wash on, wash off
Remove organic makeup with the Organic Pharmacy's Carrot Butter Cleanser with organic muslin cloth. Can't decide to use this or sweet almond oil or coconut oil to remove eye makeup? There are still so many decisions to make in an eco friendly world!
Carrot Butter Cleanser

Watch DVD
Unwind at the end of a long but enjoyable earth friendly day with Al Gore's inspiring DVD, 'An Inconvenient Truth'. All lights are turned off in house and only soy tea lights (palm oil free) twinkle in the dark. And there may or may not be a tub of vegan Hunky Punky Chocolate Booja Booja icecream in the room. After watching an Inconvenient Truth, I decide to go online and see where the new climate change film, The Age of Stupid is playing in London (Shortwave Cinema until 26 April) by using energy saving search engine, blackle.

Giving thanks to the Earth
Write down all the things I'm grateful to the earth for in my Tibetan Recycled Paper Notebook. I also write down some actions I will take to help protect and respect the earth from today onwards.

Review of Suki Pure Facial Moisture - Balancing

Sometimes creamy moisturisers are not what your skin wants or needs, so maybe you should try an oil based moisturiser. Suki’s 'Pure Facial Moisture - Balancing' is a divine treat for the face with amazing organic ingredients such as antibacterial echinacea and lavender, soothing chamomile extract and antioxidant loaded rose extract. Don’t worry about looking oily either because the end result is very flattering, giving your skin a healthy glow. This product was previously known as Facial Moisture Serum with Blue Chamomile and Echinacea.

How to use: 1-2 drops on face and decollete

Feel on skin: Nourishing and hydrating feel of oil without the greasy residue

Scent: Fruity and pleasant chamomile scent with strong base notes of jojoba and other oils

Skin Types: All skin types but especially oily, acne prone and sensitive

Results: My skin lapped it up and the overall result was very flattering. Skin glows and looks enviously healthy. Very impressive.

Value for money: Admittedly over £20 is expensive for a moisturiser but it’s certainly not uncommon for most moisturisers these days to be in this price bracket. If you have the money to spend or just want to make wise purchases that your skin will thank you for, then Suki is definitely value for money.

Who would like it? Purists who want good quality and high performing products. Also women with recurring acne or oily skin (but my skin is normal / dry and it works well for me).

Would I buy it again? Yes. I like how healthy and good this moisturiser feels on the skin. The fact the ingredients are so good makes this product leap above other moisturiser options. It is also a good alternative or break from creamy moisturisers. While you could use an almond oil (I personally find it too shiny as a day moisturiser) for true purity and affordability, I think this is the first choice for when you want a serum type moisturiser.

Score: 10/10

More about Suki…
Suki is one brand in the ever growing world of organic beauty that has got my attention time and time again! I have tried 4 of their products now and each experience has made me rush to the laptop to let you all know about it! I'm not a beauty floozy and don't get impressed easily. I’m not even a Suki employer or sponsored by them (I’m still waiting to hear back from them via email actually but I can appreciate they are busy, really I can).

Full ingredients:
organic jojoba (simmondsia chinensis), sunflower (helianthus annus), grapeseed (vitis vinifera), rice germ (oryza sativa), borage seed (borago officinalis) & hazelnut (corylus americano) oils, 100% natural non-gmo vitamin e (tocopherol), organic calendula (calendula officinalis), lavender (lavandula angustifolia), chamomile (anthemis nobilis), echinacea (echinacea purpurea) & rose (rosa canina) extracts, aroma (pure premium steam distilled essential oil)
