Chic in LA: Nathan Turner

Our final destination in Almont Yard was the eponymous shop of designer Nathan Turner. He happened to be in New York while I was in LA so we didn't get to chat with him but we very much enjoyed checking out his store. I loved the mix of photography and vintage art mixed with his custom furniture and hand painted printed fabric pillows. Everywhere you looked there was something special that needed investigating. I especially loved a pair of framed antique fresco fragments that were mounted on mirrors. I might be going back for those. Definitely make sure you check out the wonderful shops in Almont Yard the next time you're in LA!

Chic in LA: Lucas Studio

After visiting Harbinger in Almont Yard, we popped over to their sister space Lucas Studio, the interior design space of Joe Lucas and Parrish Chilcoat. They weren't around but it was fun peeking into their space.

The studio houses the fabrics and wallpapers that are sold through Harbinger.

Hand painted fabrics from Prints, Etc. hang on one wall.

They also offer the fabulous fabrics and wallpapers from Katie Ridder.

There is something about printed fabrics that will always remind me of LA now!

Sister Paris may be gone but her wallpaper designs live on.

One of the cutest parts of the studio was the powder room. It was papered in a design by Katie Ridder. Hidden behind the striped curtain are all the fabric samples.

It's hard to photography such a tiny room but I had to show you the wonderful color on the back of the door! The mirror is also for sale!

If I worked in Almont Yard, I would definitely be sitting outside most of the day! It's the cutest area in all of LA!

Chic in LA: Harbinger

Below Kathryn Ireland in Almont Yard in LA is the cutest little shop called Harbinger. It is the offshoot of Lucas Studio started by Joe Lucus and Parrish Chilcoat which is housed right next door. Unfortunately the owners weren't around for our visit but it was still fun checking out the great mix of furniture and art that they sell. Lucky for you, they list all their fabulous finds online too! Happy Shopping!

Chic in LA: Kathryn Ireland and Ferrick Mason

The first stop for our day of design in LA was the chic showroom of Kathryn Ireland where textile designer Brian Ferrick of Ferrick Mason joined us. It was a kaleidoscope of colorful prints and patterns. It seemed like everyone in LA was on the move and Kathryn was no exception. She recently opened this showroom on Almont Yard in West Hollywood in the space that used to belong to Peter Dunham.

I love how most all the showrooms in LA display their fabrics from peg racks. The larger samples can be removed, moved, borrowed and washed. Made me wonder if the fabrics in New York are ever washed!

Kathryn was super sweet in person and was excited to talk about her new fabric and wallpaper designs. These Indian print fabrics have become her signature and very popular in sunny LA.

Many of the items in the showroom were picked up along her travels and are for sale. It would be best to call ahead to make an appointment but they do get pop in visitors from time to time.

I have to find out again who makes the china but the linocuts are by Kathryn's friend, the artist Hugo Guinness. The Brits stick together!

We had the pleasure of meeting textile designer Brian Ferrick of Ferrick Mason at Kathryn's showroom. Above are just a few of the fabrics he produces with his business partner Alex Mason. Brian worked with Kathryn on her line and also helped interior designer Michael Smith create his Jasper line of fabrics. I wanted to get a photo of Brian but duty called in the form of a client and clients trump all else!

The showroom is located on the second floor and covers both halves of the building in Almont Yard. It used to be an apartment so Kathryn has converted it's closets into beautiful display areas for her pillows and quilts among other things.

On this side of the showroom, you can see more of Kathryn's extensive fabric collection and her new wallpaper.

The silver glasses from Mexico on the nightstand are also for sale. I love when showrooms look like real homes so you can picture how something would look in your own home or that of a client.

I felt like a kid in a candy store with all the wonderful fabrics and accessories on display!

Not sure if this was a closet or a back entrance but it housed a cute little settee and more treasures!

I love how Kathryn Ireland layers patterns and colors that somehow all work.

On the side shelves in this little room were more fabrics, beautiful lampshades, and more Hugo Guinness prints. You have to peak your head in to see them so I love that they styled this area as well as the rest of the showroom.

Tacked to the board are samples from Kathryn's fabric collections. Below is the entry from Almont Yard that keeps the dog inside but I breeze blowing through the space. I think I would be very happy to come to work if my office and showroom looked this cute! It's a good thing we had a schedule to keep the day we stopped by because Maison21 and I both exclaimed after the visit that we could have stayed all day!

Chic in LA: Almont Yard

I mentioned that I had a day of design last Friday in LA and it all started at Almont Yard. This chic little garden used to be a parking lot before shop owner Nathan Turner and his then neighbor Peter Dunham decided to create this little oasis in 2008.

Peter Dunham has since moved over to a new space on La Cienega, more on that later, and now Kathryn Ireland has moved into his old space. Also, in the back is Harbinger and Lucca Studio, more on those later too!

I fell in love with this beautiful space the minute I saw it and would definitely move to LA if I could work in a place this pretty. It was really relaxing!

The stores around Almont Yard often throw chic soirees including one sponsored by One Kings Lane that Christian of Maison21, Lisa of A Bloomsbury Life, Katie of Katiedid, Style Curator, and Mary of Sprinkles Design all attended last night!

There was a little kumquat tree tucked into a corner! So cute!

If I worked here, I'd be be sitting at little table everyday typing on my laptop!

We loved the Almont Yard garden so much, we decided to take a few photos for posterity!

Not sure if Christian is going to be mad at me for posting this one but I thought it was cute! Check back soon for my posts about all the fabulous stores in Almont Yard and around LA!
