H in HOLLYWOOD

I am in need of some sunshine and warm weather so I've booked a trip to Los Angeles. I can't wait to luxuriate by the pool, shop and hang out with my West Coast friend Maison21. (Just wish I was going to look as good as this girl but oh well.) I will be in La La Land from March 18th to 22nd so if anyone has any suggestions for things to do or places to go, please feel free to share! Now I'm off to plan my outfits!

Dressed Up For Purim Part 2

Purim actually started on Saturday night, so I got a chance to wear not one but two costumes this weekend! I spent an hour trying to get my hair into victory rolls for a 1940's look, but I just couldn't get the left side to match the right. Both Fleur de Guerre and Super Kawaii Mama say they are working on a victory roll tutorial, so when they come out, maybe I will try again. Anyway, I ended up putting my hair in a chignon and adding a large late 1940's hat. I thought it kind of looked like this, so I added an outfit that tried to emulate the Dior new look.

I would also like to say that my 7 year old son took these pictures!

Dress: Anthropologie
Sweater: Nanette Lepore
Belt: Anthropologie
Tights: Target
Shoes: Betsy Johnson
Earrings: Gift
Bracelet: Vintage necklace that broke, so I turned it into a bracelet!
Hat: Ebay? Etsy? I cant remember

American Modern

I was excited to receive an advance copy of American Modern by Thomas O’Brien yesterday. I think I may have actually squealed with delight upon opening the package. I have been looking forward to the release of this book since I first sped it on Amazon.com last June and I'm happy to report that it doesn't disappoint. We all know the photos are the most important part of any design book and they are beautiful, but what I really enjoyed were the stories behind each object, room and project. The book won't be officially released until April 1, 2010 but I suggest you reserve your copy now. I think it's going to be a best seller!

Dressed Up For Purim

Hi kittens, I'm back! And I have some outfit posts for you!

I am starting off with a costume I wore last night for Purim. Purim commemorates Queen Esther saving the Jewish people from the wicked Haman, who wanted to annihilate them. One of the ways we celebrate is by wearing costumes- similar to Halloween, but without all the death imagery.

The theme of the Purim party we were attending was 'Purim in Italy' so we were supposed to dress 'Italian'- whatever that means. My husband and I thought we would dress like we were in a Fellini film. So my husband dressed like a Shriner and I went as his wife from the 60s. Check it out:

(My son Buzz Lightyear always wants to be in the picture. I wonder where he gets it from?)

More Men

I am loving that J.Crew is featuring real people in the catalog and online! It's real people who buy and wear J.Crew so they are perfect models! While the real girls garnered all the glory this month, I'm loving the Men of Monocle feature most of all! I've never heard of Monocle magazine before but I think they might have found themselves a new subscriber! Oh, and just so we're clear J.Crew, I would be happy to volunteer myself for any future real people features. (Note to self: go to the gym!) But until, I will placing my real people order for spring. Happy Shopping!

Kip Bay Decorator Show House 2010

It's that time of year again! Time to get excited about the 2010 Kips Bay Decorator Show House! For the first time ever, the Show House will be housed on the Upper West Side in a magnificent 19th Century Renaissance Revival limestone mansion at 26 West 76th Street. The Pre-Renovation Party will be held tomorrow night where you can see what the house looks like before the fabulous designers get their hands on it. Speaking of designers, they will be announced at the event and all are welcome to attend! Garrow Kedigian's room, seen above, was the highlight of last year's show so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they have chosen more young designers! The show opens to the public on April 30, 2010.
